The institute is involved in various activities aimed at increasing awareness in the field of Speech and Hearing. It also conducts academic programs on a regular basis.

Awareness Campaigns

a) Inauguration
To mark the inauguration of the institute a walkathon was organized by the staff and students of the institute. The Vice-Chancellor of Bangalore University, Dr. M.S Thimmappa flagged off the walkathon. The walkathon received wide publicity in the press and was covered by all local T.V Channels.

b) The Institute conducted an awareness Program” Catch them Young” with Rotary Club. This program was done to coincide with the Pulse Polio campaign. Parents who visited the Primary Health Centres were given pamphlets on early signs of speech and hearing problems in children. A total of 2000pamphelets were distributed and 12 children were identified and referred to the institute.

c) On International Noise Awareness Day
On 26th April 2006, the institute and Nayak’s Hearing Clinic organized an awareness program on harmful effects of noise. The event received wide publicity. There were many calls from citizens who want to form a group that will work on creating awareness on the harmful effect of noise, the institute will provide all the support required.

d) Painting competition for hearing impaired children. A painting competition was organized for children with hearing impairment at Cubbon Park on 6th Oct 2006. The event was sponsored by the Britannia Industries Pvt. Ltd. and Pedilite Industry. A total of six schools took part in this event.

e) In association with Kathalaya an NGO working at popularizing story telling, the institute organized a story telling session for hearing impaired children in the age group of 6-12 years. The children were taught to make puppets and different maps. The session was sponsored by Rotary Club of R.T Nagar.

f) Career in Speech and Hearing: talks on career prospects in the field of Speech and Hearing were given in local PU College with the aim to increase awareness among the students. Students were given an insight on the job profile of a Speech Language Pathologist and Audiologist and job prospects in India and abroad were also discussed

Conferences and Seminars


I. The institute organized a conference on ”Comparison of Effects of Compression. Amplification and Consonant Enhancement on Speech Perception” on 7th  January 2006

a. The main speaker was Dr. Girija Sundar- a senior Audiologist from the United States. The conference was attended by 85 delegates.

b. The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Shivshankar, Profession and Head   of Dept of Speech Pathology and Audiology, NIMHANS.

II. A workshop on:Signed English” was conducted by Dr. H.S Venkatgiri Iowa, U.S.A, associate Prof of Psychology, Speech-Language Pathology and Linguistics, on July 15th and 16th 2006 at Institute. A group of 30 teachers and parents were trained in Signed English. The workshop was inaugurated by Assistant Commissioner for People with Disability; Ms. Eshrath Afza Begum. M.Sc

III. A seminar was jointly organized with S.R.C institute of Speech and Hearing on   Jan 15th 2007. Dr. Giri Hedge, Prof in Dept of Speech Pathology, spoke on two topics “Treatment of Fluency Disorders” in Speech Language Pathology and”Current Perspectives on the nature and Treatment of Fluency Disorders.

IV. Dr. Mahadevaiah – Pediatric Neurologist, Medical Director of Spastic Society of Karnataka, spoke on the   Neuro-motor Development in normal and Cerebral palsy, to the staff and students at the Institute on 14th May 2007.
